Why do organizations that have implemented a management system decide to certify the management systems? International certification of management systems is assessment of the compliance of management processes with the requirements of the selected international standard (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001, ISO / IEC 27001, FSSC / ISO 22000, HACCP, GMP+, etc.), which is carried out by authorized international auditors on behalf of the certification body.
On the one hand, a management system is needed to assess, develop and improve the internal business processes of an organization. On the other hand, certification of management systems allows to get a certificate as a result of the work done.
The certification cycle for any standard, with the exception of some specialized food safety standards / certification schemes, is 3 calendar years. Audits for certification of management systems must be carried out annually: a certification or recertification audit is due once every three years and during the 3-year validity period of the issued certificate, two surveillance audits. Certification audit is the initial audit of the management system, the longest and most complete in terms of the amount of the information checked.
Surveillance audit is a "supporting" audit of the management system, the purpose of which is to confirm by the international auditor that the organization that the certificate holder still meets the requirements of the selected standard and is taking measures to improve the management system, as required by international standards for certification of management systems. Surveillance auditing is selective.
Recertification audit is the beginning of a new cycle of certification of management systems, a deep long-term examination of the organization in order to identify changes that have occurred since the issue of the certificate. In case of compliance with the terms of the recertification audit established by the certification body, the certificate for the management system is extended for the next 3 years.
